  • Will I receive joining instructions for the sailing courses?
Yes, we will send out joining instructions by email within 24 hours of a booking being made. You will also receive another copy one week before your course starts.
  • Do I need to be able to swim?
No you don’t. Everyone will wear at life jacket when on deck. We do however want to know whether or not you can swim from a risk assessment perspective.
  • What time and where do the courses start?
On the first day of your course we ask you to arrive at 9.00am. The meeting point and parking information is included in your joining instructions.
  • What time and where do the sailing courses end?
We normally aim to finish our courses in Ramsgate around 4pm on the last day. There may however be operational reasons and to ensure the best possible course experience for our students that we finish at another location. This is most likely to be Chatham or Gillingham. In this event we organise private transfer back to Ramsgate or to suitable public transport if preferred. In these circumstances, arrival in Ramsgate is likely to be around 17.00 on the last day.
  • Is there public transport to Ramsgate Royal Harbour?
Yes, Ramsgate railway station is approximately 15 minutes walk and there are local taxis available.
  • Do we sleep on board the yacht?
Yes. You will be allocated your own berth (bed) on a shared cabin basis (never mixed gender unless booked together as a couple/pair). We provide a pillow and pillowcase and undersheet. You need to bring your own sleeping bag.
  • Is food Included on the courses?
Yes, all meals on board (except for breakfast on the first day and dinner on the last) are provided. We also provide a plentiful supply of snacks along with tea/coffee etc. We do ask to be advised at least 7 days before your course of any specific dietary requirements.
  • Can I bring alcohol with me on board the yacht?
Certainly. Although there is to be no alcohol consumed during the day, we want people to relax and enjoy themselves during social times in the evening.
  • What if I get seasickness during the sailing course?
Most people have no issues with seasickness on our courses. If you feel concerned, anti sickness medication can be taken but you should consult your GP about medication in advance of your course if in any doubt.
  • What happens if we get bad weather during the sailing course?
We plan our courses to take account of unsuitable weather and if in doubt about the likely conditions the course will be re-scheduled to dates that suit you. If this cannot be achieved then we will give you a full refund.
  • Will I get an RYA Certificate?
Assuming you meet the requirements of the course then all RYA Courses (Competent Crew, Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper) end with the award of a certificate.
  • What shall I bring with me?
Please click here to see our recommendation on what you should pack to bring with you on one of our sailing courses.
  • I have another question not covered here?
There are no stupid questions! Either call or email us and we will advise you the best we can.
