What to Expect: Your Nine-Day Journey to Day Skipper

Your journey to becoming a qualified Day Skipper is split into two key phases, ensuring you receive a thorough and immersive learning experience:

Phase 1: Classroom Immersion – 4 Days of Essential Theory

The course begins with four days of intensive classroom-based learning. During this crucial initial phase, you'll delve deep into the theoretical knowledge essential for safe and effective skippering. Our experienced instructors will guide you through vital topics, including:

Advanced Navigation Techniques: Master chart work, tidal calculations, course plotting, and electronic navigation systems.
Meteorology: Understand weather patterns, interpret forecasts, and make informed decisions based on prevailing conditions.
Passage Planning: Learn how to plan safe and efficient voyages, considering all relevant factors.

To ensure your comfort and convenience, accommodation for the first three nights can be arranged right here in Ramsgate. Phase 2: Practical Application – 5 Days on the Water

After building a solid theoretical foundation, it's time to put your knowledge into practice! The second phase of the course involves five exhilarating days out on the water. You'll join our experienced instructors aboard one of our well-maintained training yachts, applying everything you've learned in a real-world sailing environment.

During this practical phase, you'll gain invaluable hands-on experience in:

Skippering Techniques: Take command and develop your leadership skills.
Maneuvering Under Sail and Power: Master close-quarters handling, mooring, and anchoring.
Pilotage: Navigate safely in and out of harbours and along coasts.
